It is also celebrated in other parts of the country like Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and the union territories of Dadra and Nager Haveli as well as Daman and Diu.
According to legend, Lord Brahma created the universe on this day and it marks the beginning of a new cosmic cycle. In some regions, it commemorates the coronation of Rama in Ayodhya after his victory over evil Ravana
How Is Gudi Padwa Celebrated?
The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy by the people of Maharashtra and Konkan regions. It is observed with colourful floor decorations called rangoli, a special Gudhi dvaja.

Traditional dishes like Puran Poli, Shrikhand, and Puri Bhaji are prepared and shared with family and friends.
In Maharashtra, processions are organized in various cities and towns where people carry the Gudi and perform traditional dances and music. People also decorate their homes with flowers and lights to mark the beginning of a new year.
